SHOCKING: 56% of Bloggers Do No Email Marketing. Why Not?

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 04-09-12

Sometimes, people like me can’t help but wonder why others read our advice and don’t actually apply it.

Case in point…

A recent survey I ran over the weekend shows that 56.4% of bloggers (at least in my audience) don’t engage in any kind of email marketing.

179 responses to that particular question – which isn’t bad since I did run this thing right over Easter weekend. :)

I was surprised by the result, though. (And, yes, the “shocking” pat of the headline was a bit of an exaggeration. ;) )

Weekly Round Up – Plus, What To Do When You Don’t Feel Like Working

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 04-06-12

Before we delve into the weekly roundup for this week, something occurred to me this week.

It has to do with productivity. And it is this…

All of us, from time to time, come up against the wall. We’re sitting there at the computer, knowing we have a ton to get done… but we don’t want to do ANY of it.

We just get burned out. And the idea of doing more work just kinda… sucks.

Here’s what I’ve discovered lately…

Don’t fight it.

Blogger Census: Your Input Is Requested

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 04-05-12

It has been some time since I’ve done some general surveying of the blogger community, and specifically readers of my blog.

As I’ve taught many times, surveying is one of the best ways to make sure you are providing what people need and want. There are multiple ways to conduct surveys – some more formal than others.

But, surveys help you know:

  • Who you’re talking to.
  • What they need and want.
  • How you can best help them.

So, on that note… I’ve got two surveys planned out here. The first one starts today and is fairly broad. A little later on, I’m going to go deep with another survey… something you’ve probably not seen before. :)

Does Social Media Violate The 80/20 Rule?

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 04-03-12

The 80/20 rule is a pretty well known fact. It goes like this:

80% of your results will come from 20% of your efforts.

Which means that approximately 20% of the things we actually do are responsible for a huge majority of the results we achieve.

One of the things I regularly do in my business is a quick 80/20 analysis. I actually look at an overview of what I’m doing with my time and I begin questioning assumptions.

Are those things REALLY leading to results? Am I just doing it because I assume I’m supposed to be doing it, or is it actually benefiting me?

Weekly Round Up: A Time Management Lesson

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 03-30-12

Busy week. You, too? :)

My big goal for this week was to complete recording of a new video course that I will be releasing soon. This will be a 30 day training program on how to transform your blog into a site that actually achieves the aims you set out for it. And, it will be completely free. Details soon. :)

One “lesson” I will pass on is this…

Set deadlines for yourself.

TBP004: Blog Evaluation Checklist: What I Look For When Consulting People On Their Blogs

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 03-28-12

I get asked to evaluate blogs a lot, either privately or for members of my various training programs. In this episode, I’m going to share some of the key things I look for in determining whether a blog is laid out well for grabbing attention, holding attention, converting visitors into readers, getting people onto an email list, and much more.

In this episode, you’ll learn about:

  • The #1 priority of your blog
  • The mental state most people arrive on your blog in (and how this impacts how you must do things)

How To Start A Podcast: An In-Depth Guide From Planning to Launch Day

Filed in: Blogging by RMS on 03-26-12

Ever thought about starting a podcast? Been a little freaked out about the logistics of doing it?

I was, too. But, then I tackled it and I’m super glad I did. I launched The Blog Program and, while I’m only 3 episodes in (as of this writing), it is going pretty dang well so far.

So, while I’m still learning as I go with this new medium, I have successfully LAUNCHED the podcast. So, I thought I would tell you how to do the same.
